Dr. Danese is Full Professor of Gastroenterology at Humanitas University and Head of the IBD Center at the Humanitas Research Hospital in Italu. Dr. Danese graduated from the Catholic University “Sacro Cuore” of Rome in 1999. From 2001 to 2004, he moved in the Division of Gastroenterology at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, where he worked as Research Associate in the field of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), under the supervision of Prof. Claudio Fiocchi.

In 2004, Prof. Danese became specialist in Gastroenterology at the School of Specialization of the Policlinico Gemelli of Rome, leaded by Prof. G. Gasbarrini and at the same time he began the PhD/Doctor in Physiopathology of Metabolism, focusing specifically on basic and applied research concerning IBD.

He is currently working on several basic research projects and phase I, II and III clinical trials for the treatment of IBD patients, in collaboration with numerous Italian, European and American centers. He is also Member of the Editorial Board of “Current Drug Target” and “Alimentary Pharmacol & Therapeutics” and Associate Editor of “Gut” and “Journal of Crohn’s and Colitis”. He organizes and participates every year to numerous congresses, including ECCO, UEGW, DDW, FISMAD and he has published more than 300 research articles on peer-reviewed journal with high impact factor. Dr. Danese is currently, the President of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization (ECCO) and the Secretary and Chair of the Clinical Trial task force of the International Organization of IBD (IOIBD). Furthermore, he is a member of the Italian Society of Gastroenterology (SIGE) and the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA).
